Birdman

Franz Reichelt, an Austrian Tailor, decided to take an attempt at flying off of the Eiffel Tower in 1912. He started working on a flying suit that he designed. It basically was a huge piece of cloth and a big frame. He was so confident of his design that he didn’t even test it using a dummy but instead went straight to the Eiffel tower and jumped off. Many onlookers standing below were ready to time the duration of his flight. The total duration of his flight: 4 seconds.

Ouch.
