French Parachutist to Jump from Stratosphere

michel-fournier-super-jump

Next month, a 62 year old French parachutist, Michel Fournier, will attempt to break the world record for jumping from the highest altitude. He will jump from 130,000 feet (40 km / 25 miles) above the ground.

Michel has been working on this project for over 15 years. During this period, two attempts have been made at launching the balloon. The first attempt, in September 2002, was cancelled because of weather conditions; winds were too strong. There are only two periods during which the jump can take place, at the end of May and the end of August beginning September.

The 4 world records :

- Altitude record for freefall
- Altitude record for human balloon flight
- Time record for longest freefall
- Speed record for fastest freefall
