Net Neutrality: Who voted for What?

NOTE: There was an error in this listing. It has been corrected! I apologize. It was an accidental typo! I have double checked this list and there should be no errors. I used a script to sort out the names and it made a mistake because of same last names. They have been corrected now.
If you do find an error please let me know! Thank you.

The largest telephone and cable companies such as AT&T, Verizon, Comcast, and Time Warner want to be able to decide which websites run fast, slow or not at all. They want to be able to charge extra money for fast service and if web sites don’t pay extra then they’ll be doomed to a slow connection.

Net Neutrality wants to ensure that all sites get equal treatment.
The supporters of Net Neutrality include leading high-tech companies such as Amazon.com, Earthlink, EBay, Google, Intel, Microsoft, Skype, Vonage and Yahoo. Prominent national figures such as Internet pioneer Vint Cerf, Stanford law professor Lawrence Lessig and FCC Commissioner Michael Copps have called for stronger Net Neutrality protections.

  2. Net Neutrality: Why did Barney Frank vote ___?…

So I was cruising down a list of congressional votes for the recently dead Net Neutrality bill which was being kicked and knifed around Congress recently, and what do I see? My Congressional Representative Barney Frank, reliable to the end, votes &#822…

  9. Thanks for the list. I’m going to be in Florida’s 24th district this coming election, where the incumbent is Tom Feeny, who already made headlines for trying to rig voting machines. I already despise the man, so his NO vote just gives me one more reason to help vote him out of office this comming election.

  10. I take much pride in saying that the representitives in my home state of Massachusetts get, and believe like I do that the internet should not be handed over to the corporate gatekeepers (telcos) who have designs on making the internet reflective of only what makes them the most money and not preserving the basic spirit of the internet.

Make way for corporate censorship via the planned cyber-extortion. If you can’t pay, then get out of the way!

My final thought on this debate
The internet of today and in the past is organic and free spirited as Woodstock (1969)

The internet of tomorrow and beyond is one that is as controlled and contrived as the for profit Woodstock (1994)

For all who voted in favor of net neutrality

    -Thanks for everyting
    Marc

  14. Oops. Thank you Steve. I used grep for sorting these and it grabbed everything that says “Virginia”. I’ll fix it right away.

  22. […] I guess I shouldn’t be surprised that the House of Representatives voted against Net Neutrality. In the event that you’re interested, here’s how each Representative voted on a state-by-state basis. Every Louisiana Representative voted against the bill. Nice. Not much really going on here. I’m trying to get two papers off of my desk and to the Journal of Dairy Science. I found out Friday that I’m unexpectdly a co-author on a paper from University of Georgia, which is cool, but I think I may have to sign a copyright release saying “Go Dawgs!” Ick. The plans for the Brazil trip are coming together nicely; I booked my nonrefundable tickets today, so I’m going, come heck or high water. Last week I got nominated to the Editorial Board of the Journal of Animal Science. It’s not quite as impressive as it might sound, but it’s still a nice opportunity. The possible downside is that it could lead to more responsibility down the road. Hm. That nasty “R” word has a way of popping up these days. […]

  23. […] Call Congress today: No senator can in good conscience vote against Internet freedom and with the telecom cartel. For information on who voted, and which way they voted see here for an easier to read list broken out by state, or here for the official roll call of the vote.  In our lovely republican state of Missouri it was 100% nay votes, apparently party lines and big business lobbies mean more than their constituents.  Strange coming from a party who prides itself as advocates of the Small Business owner.   For a good overview and information on just what “Net Neutrality” is and the issues involved see here .  While the issue crosses many boundaries the basic principal at hand is whether or not to allow the few major ISP’s to be allowed to give certain content providers and types ‘priority’ access and therefore limit or ‘de-prioritize’ traffic to other providers and services.  For example, a large company like Microsoft (who to be fair is *for* Net Neutrality by the way) could pay AOL so that it prioritized all traffic to its websites.  All AOL users would then have a very fast, good experience whenever they went to http://www.microsoft.com but could have a very slow and painful experience when visiting a website who either chose not to pay AOL or could not afford to do so.  Or a more likely scenario would be AOL providing poor access to any of its competitors, or perhaps no access at all.  Effectively what you end up with is a two-tier internet, with the wealthy enterprises paying for unfettered visitation and the rest of the world sharing whatever is leftover. See our previous blog on the why you should care about network neutrality.   […]

  25. […] I have been following up Net Neutrality amendment for the past couple weeks on one of my blogs. In a one line summary, it is an ammendment that was supported by democrats to support neutrality on the web. Some broadband providers are providing higher speeds to some websites that pay them well. This causes partiality on the web. The websites which have more financial backing are successful as compared to good content websites. I have even set up an online petition which has around 4000 signatures so far. Here is a list of house representatives who voted in the recent net neutrality amendment. See where the Ohio representative stands on this issue. […]

  28. Actually everyone who voted NO upholds the constitution. The Federal Government hasn’t been delegated any powers to decide on this matter. And to vote YES on this bill would be fraud comitted against the American People.

I know they comitt fraud all the time. But at least enjoy the few times they don’t.
